About Us

This is what it’s all about – activities that offer a challenge, excitement and adventure through knowledge you pick up along the way through structured lectures and first-hand experience. We are a corps of 35,000 cadets and over 1,000 squadrons. Although we may have been founded in 1941, we’re ever growing and adapting to bring new and improved opportunities to cadets form across Britain.

Sqn Crest No Background

This Crest depicts the ATC falcon in front of the badge of Pontypridd RFC, the local rugby team, which itself features the old bridge (From which the town gets its name). The Squadron motto is ‘Pont i Antur’, tying together the town’s name, the motto of the Air Training Corps (Venture Adventure) and the Welsh language of the local area.

What we do

Flying

Green Flying
Cadet Green returns from an Air Experience Flying trip.

One of the air training corps unique activities is flying. Cadets of all ages are able to experience Powered flight and perform their own aerobatic techniques under the instruction of Ex or Current RAF pilots. These are called Air Experience Flights or AEF for short. On average a cadet should fly at least once per year.

Adventure Training

Homepage
Cadets and staff burn off their Christmas Dinners and visit some wreckage sites.

Adventurous Training is an essential part of the Air Cadet’s training syllabus and the place where team effort really matters – you’ll build new friendships, and learn to rely on the other people you’re with to get the job done. It also lets you show off your leadership qualities.

Sport

Richings Climbing
Cadet Richings practices his climbing skills.

Cadets can participate in a huge number of different sports, at Squadron and Wing levels, including athletics, five-a-side football, netball, rugby, volleyball, cross country, swimming and many more. Those Cadets who excell at Squadron and Wing levels can go forward to represent their Region. Should they be successful at the Regional competition, they may then have the chance to represent the Corp against the CCF, ACF and SCF.

The air training corps has the motto “Venture Adventure” literally meaning to look for adventure. The Air Training Corps has 3 main aims:

“To promote and encourage among young people a practical interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force.”

“To provide training which will be useful in the Services and civilian life.”
